Wondering how to choose the right concrete mix ratio for your construction project? 🧱🔍
🏗️ Density of Common Construction Materials (in kg/m³)

📌 Knowing the density of materials helps in accurate material estimation and structural design.
- 💧 Water: 1000 kg/m³
- 🧱 Cement: 1440 kg/m³
- 🏖️ Sand: 1650 kg/m³
- 🪨 Aggregate (Coarse): 1800 kg/m³
- 🧱 Bricks: 1900 kg/m³
- 🧩 Concrete (Plain): 2400 kg/m³
- 🧱🪨 RCC (Reinforced Cement Concrete): 2500 kg/m³
🧪 Concrete & Mortar Mixing Ratios Explained with Examples
🛠️ Mix ratios define how much cement, sand, and aggregate to use. Let’s simplify:
✅ General Concrete Work (CC & RCC)

- 1:2:4 (Cement:Sand:Aggregate) – Used for beams, slabs, and columns.
👉 Example: For 1 part cement, use 2 parts sand & 4 parts aggregate. If using 1 bag of cement (50 kg), use 100 kg sand + 200 kg aggregate. - 1:1.5:3 – Higher strength concrete for RCC like roof slabs or columns.
👉 1 bag cement + 75 kg sand + 150 kg aggregate. - 1:1:2 – Extra strong mix for load-bearing RCC like large columns or arches.
👉 1 bag cement + 50 kg sand + 100 kg aggregate. - 1:3:6 – Medium-strength mix used in tanks, sewers, or base layers.
- 1:4:8 – Used for mass concrete, footings, or heavy walls.

🧱 Mortar Mixes for Wall & Plastering Work
- 1:3 – Masonry with higher strength; suitable for load-bearing walls.
- 1:4 / 1:5 / 1:6 – Standard masonry and brickwork.
- 1:2 / 1:3 / 1:4 / 1:5 – For plastering different wall types.
👉 Example: For plastering with 1:4 ratio – mix 1 part cement with 4 parts fine sand.
