Wondering how to choose the right concrete mix ratio for your construction project? π§±π
ποΈ Density of Common Construction Materials (in kg/mΒ³)

π Knowing the density of materials helps in accurate material estimation and structural design.
- π§ Water: 1000 kg/mΒ³
- 𧱠Cement: 1440 kg/m³
- ποΈ Sand: 1650 kg/mΒ³
- πͺ¨ Aggregate (Coarse): 1800 kg/mΒ³
- 𧱠Bricks: 1900 kg/m³
- 𧩠Concrete (Plain): 2400 kg/m³
- π§±πͺ¨ RCC (Reinforced Cement Concrete): 2500 kg/mΒ³
π§ͺ Concrete & Mortar Mixing Ratios Explained with Examples
π οΈ Mix ratios define how much cement, sand, and aggregate to use. Letβs simplify:
β General Concrete Work (CC & RCC)

- 1:2:4 (Cement:Sand:Aggregate) β Used for beams, slabs, and columns.
π Example: For 1 part cement, use 2 parts sand & 4 parts aggregate. If using 1 bag of cement (50 kg), use 100 kg sand + 200 kg aggregate. - 1:1.5:3 β Higher strength concrete for RCC like roof slabs or columns.
π 1 bag cement + 75 kg sand + 150 kg aggregate. - 1:1:2 β Extra strong mix for load-bearing RCC like large columns or arches.
π 1 bag cement + 50 kg sand + 100 kg aggregate. - 1:3:6 β Medium-strength mix used in tanks, sewers, or base layers.
- 1:4:8 β Used for mass concrete, footings, or heavy walls.

𧱠Mortar Mixes for Wall & Plastering Work
- 1:3 β Masonry with higher strength; suitable for load-bearing walls.
- 1:4 / 1:5 / 1:6 β Standard masonry and brickwork.
- 1:2 / 1:3 / 1:4 / 1:5 β For plastering different wall types.
π Example: For plastering with 1:4 ratio β mix 1 part cement with 4 parts fine sand.
